Advanced Cataract Surgery in Danville, Virginia

Advanced Cataract Surgery in Danville, Virginia
Danville Eye Center is proud to offer the most advanced and effective cataract surgery in Danville, Virginia. Having performed thousands of cataract removals, Dr. Cobble is among the most experienced and trusted doctors in the country in the procedure. He has closely followed advancements in cataract surgery over the years, and has recently integrated some of the more promising of these advancements into his practice.

Dr. Cobble uses the technique of phacoemulsification, currently the preferred method of cataract removal, to perform cataract surgery at his Danville, Virginia, practice. This technique allows Dr. Cobble to remove the eye’s natural lens through a small, self-healing incision about 3 millimeters in length. Because the incision is so small, it is watertight when it heals, removing the need for stitches or a patch. The entire procedure is performed under topical anesthesia.

There was a time when cataract surgery meant that a patient was destined to wear thick “Coke bottle” glasses in order to see properly after the removal of the natural lens. Modern technology, however, has made it possible for Dr. Cobble to implant an artificial intraocular lens – or “IOL” - into your eye during surgery. The IOL performs the function of the natural lens, allowing you to focus with ease on objects both near and distant, usually without the need for glasses or contact lenses.

Laser Eye Surgery in Danville, Virginia
The use of lasers in eye surgery is one of the most important technological advances of the last 30 years. At Danville Eye Center, we incorporate laser technology into many of our most popular procedures. For example, in his glaucoma treatments, Dr. Cobble can use a laser beam to reshape the anterior chamber where fluid leaves the eye, facilitating drainage and reducing intraocular pressure. Our office also features the YAG laser, which allows Dr. Cobble to treat the membrane that contained the natural lens following cataract removal as well as narrow-angle glaucoma. Lasers are also used to treat diabetic retinopathy and advanced age-related macular degeneration.

Flourescein Angiography in Danville, Virginia

Flourescein Angiography in Danville, Virginia
As part of your retinal eye exam, Dr. Cobble or Dr. Rankin will perform a test called flourescein angiography. This test involves injecting a fluorescent dye into your bloodstream, enabling a photograph to be taken of the back of your eye. This more complete and detailed analysis of your retina allows the doctors to detect even the most minute evidence of a disease or disorder, thereby improving your chances of maintaining the health of your eyes.

Visudyne Dye Treatment in Danville, Virginia

Visudyne Dye Treatment in Danville, Virginia
If you are diagnosed with the wet form of age-related macular degeneration, you may be a candidate for Visudyne dye treatment. This involves injecting a dye called Verteporfin into your blood stream. When exposed to a special light, this dye destroys leaking blood vessels in the eye while the healthy blood vessels remain undisturbed. So far, this promising new treatment has proven safe and effective, with reports of rare and mostly minimal side effects.
